    But are they good quality?

People swear by Shimanos and others......they're made overseas......

If Penn can make a good quality overseas product......then what woudl the difference be?

I dunno, all my Penns are from "over here", so I can't speak to their "overseas" products, just asking the question.

I HEAR THE QUALITY IS ACTUALLY GREAT. JUST BEING IN MANUFACTURING I HATE WHEN CHIPMAKING JOBS LEAVE THE US....WITH REELS, YOU ALMOST CAN'T SEE PAYING DOMSTIC REEL PRICES.

    I hear ya.......

But Shimanos are even more expensive than Penn for comparable models (in general)....

OK, so you could get an OKUMA cheap.....

OK sorry...I'm LMFAO there! Those things are garbage LOL

whoa whoa whoa, They are a quality reel for the price. As in every reel mfg, there are lowends, middle road, and higher quality. I have had very little issues with Okuma.(and that's saying something, with the beating they take on charters)

Wait.....you use reels made overseas on YOUR charters????????

    LOL just busting...

Yeh, I suppose for the price they are ok (so are Zebcos :P )

I guess buying reels for personal use vs. charter use probably tends to lead you in different directions.....

i.e. for personal use, you're probably more likely to spend more for something real nice and take care of and hang onto it hopefully "forever"...

    Point well taken.

dont even bother buying the penn liveliners 5600 . I bought one when they first came out and it has been ok. The 2 i bought last year really suck . they went down hill big time. I think i have replaced every part inside them atleast once.

With Penn not being the workhorse it once was, it has forced me to look elsewhere, and while i agree with the american made reel pricing being a bit high, i have also found you get what you pay for. Although not american made, I am glad to see another fishing giant return to the plate as Fin Nor has re-introduced the AHAB reels, I picked up my first one the other day and comparing it to my old AHAB, I really cant see much of a difference. Hopefully they are back to stay.
